Impressive Two-Storey Extension
This was one of those projects that immediately stood out, not just because of its sheer size, but because every detail was carefully considered from the ground up.
Transforming the property into a substantial two-storey extension with impressive vaulted spaces, this build completely redefined the home while remaining sympathetic to its original character.
The first thing that catches your eye is the exceptional brickwork. The carefully selected blend of traditional Cheshire-style facing bricks is complemented beautifully by contrasting red brick detailing, creating striking quoin-style corners, elegant soldier courses and beautifully crafted brick arches above every window and opening. These architectural features add depth and character, giving the extension a timeless appearance that looks as though it has always belonged.
The roof structure was an incredible piece of engineering in itself.
Constructed with multiple intersecting pitched roofs, the design creates a stunning series of gables that bring symmetry and presence to the rear elevation. During construction, the scale of the roof became truly apparent, with an intricate timber framework supporting vast vaulted ceilings inside. Every angle had to come together perfectly, requiring meticulous setting out and craftsmanship to achieve the finished result.
Inside, the property was completely transformed by the soaring ceiling heights.
The vaulted spaces create an incredible feeling of openness, flooding the home with natural light and giving every room an airy, luxurious atmosphere. The exposed roof structure during construction highlights just how much planning and precision went into creating these impressive volumes, with every stud wall, beam and roof member positioned to maximise the space.
Large aluminium glazing spans the rear elevation, framing the garden beautifully while allowing daylight to pour into the living areas. The combination of traditional brickwork with contemporary glazing creates the perfect balance between classic architecture and modern family living.
Projects of this scale require careful coordination at every stage, from the structural shell and complex roof construction through to the finer architectural details that bring everything together.
It was a challenging build, but one that showcases exactly what can be achieved with quality workmanship, careful planning and attention to detail.
